The video accompanied a sculpture, called Inochi (Japanese for ‘life’), Takashi Murakami made in an attempt to blur the lines between human and non-human, the alive and the manufactured.
Shelby Lee Adams would spend his summers in the mountains taking photos of the locals. Some people think his work is exploitative but, serving more as “self-portrait” and an attempt to trace his roots, it has instead offered insight into a culture hidden from immediate view.
